Women and weights

As those of you that are members or have used the Performance Centre will know we are big advocates of introducing weights / resistance training into women’s fitness routines.  We asked a few women who either do not or did not use weights in their programmes as to why – the same answers nearly always came back.

Number 1 – “Felt silly / embarrassed because of not knowing what to do”

Well, this one is easy to sort – trainers in gyms are there to help their users (i would hope or you are at the wrong gym!) so should / instruct safe and effective use of the equipment – all you need to do is ask for a programme – we and most mainstream gyms do them free to all members so just ask.

Number 2 – “Weights will make me bulky / big / muscle bound etc” Continue reading

January Weights for Women Programme

weights for women

UPDATE – THIS PROGRAMME IS NOW FULLY BOOKED – WE ARE LOOKING INTO RUNNING ANOTHER COURSE ON MONDAY NIGHTS – IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED PLEASE LET US KNOW.

After the continued interest in our Weights for Women programme (W4W) we are pleased to announce we will be running another 4 week programme starting Tuesday 13th January at 19:00.

In a nutshell the W4W programme is designed to teach safe and effective use of resistance training as part of an all round fitness programme.  It takes the form of 1 hour sessions over the course of 4 weeks with handouts and a programme to follow upon completion.

Too often women are simply put off this very helpful form of training by the combination of embarrassment and intimidation by what is (wrongly) seen as the male part of the gym. We have the perfect setting for this type of programme as our centre is private membership with a very large percentage of female members that all use resistance training in their programmes – so you can rest assured you will feel safe and at home 🙂 Continue reading

A little help?

In the new year we are launching our new website and wondered if our wonderful members would mind helping us with one of the pages?  We want to give would be members here a better idea of what we are about, the types of people that use us and the kinds of training we can help with so we thought – why not ask the very people that use us?

To help out we would need a quick picture of you – training at the centre (just so people know we have not just made it up!) along with the answers to a few questions.  In return for helping us we will gift those used a free NPC t-shirt in any of the colours currently available – everyone likes a free t-shirt right 😉

To show us your are up for the challenge please fill in your details in the box and we will be in touch!

Thanks in advance for your help 🙂
